Ruth JoAnn Holzwarth

Ruth JoAnn Holzwarth, 84, of Kansas, passed away at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Elmwood at the Shawhan in Tiffin.

Ruth was born March 8, 1928 in Tiffin, to the late John R. and Emma E. (Kimmet) Puffenberger. She married Dwight R. Holzwarth on September 10, 1949 and he preceded her in death.

Other survivors include her children, Holly A. Amlin of Tiffin, Melinda E. (Robert) Gerty of Columbus, Mellissa J. (Kenneth) Miller of Fremont, four grandchildren, Donavon (Jenny) Gerty, Samantha (Alex) Chorba, Season and Nathan Miller, and a sister, Evelyn Dantuono-Raitz of Tiffin.

Ruth worked as the Post Master in Kansas for 30 years. She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Kansas where she was active with their Rosary Alter Society. She was also a member of the Kansas Fireman’s Auxiliary, the Pray of Legion of Mary, and distributed communion to the shut-ins for the church. Ruth was a 1946 graduate of Bettsville High School where she served as the Valedictorian of her class.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, John Puffenberger, three sisters, Marian Boyer, Evone Mooney and Annabel Lind.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, September 13, 2012, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. The Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the mass. Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m., at the Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory in Tiffin. Burial will follow the services on Thursday, at the St. Joseph Catholic cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care, Elmwood at the Shawhan or to the Calvert Catholic Schools.
